Fear Doesn’t Live Here Anymore:
Project: EVICTION is rooted from a younger version of my self. Younger ME who was scared of Everything Dogs, bodies of water, failure.. etc. After years of growth and self-reflection I finally took listen to my dad, for at least half my life he recite this sentence: “There is NOTHING to Fear but Fear Itself”. It’s not a easy sentence to digest or to interpret. But in 2023 I wrote a poem. (Posted below) When It all clicked. Fear is a person, a figment of your imagination, it is physical and all illusion all at the same time.
I Built a house to represent to place where Fear lives. The house is your mind. Your mind is your House. If Fear doesn’t want to leave on their own.. Lets burn the house down.. Metaphorically of course. The house was a built and placed in a popular black area in East Durham. Where the idea was for people to release whatever they are fearful of by writing on the inside of the walls of the house. And then I burnt it down.

Fear is a state of mind. Yes. I also think fear can live in your home (mind). It controls every ounce of your being. Well what if.. fear is alive.. And is something that can breathe.. that can die like everyone else. Is it a spirit? Is it an animal? A combination of both? Or just a bum a** Mothaf***a who sleeps on your good couch. Either way we have to get him the F**k out of here..
This project was built around the idea of acknowledging your fears and understanding that they no longer serve you. Evicting fear to make way for growth and new opportunities.
In theory and in reality we have to BURN some shit down.
Some say it’s inevitable. Some would say it’s fate. I say you have CONTROL either way.
